The Serpent Queen Story
The Serpent Queen is described as a historical play that has a twist since it puts a modern twist on traditional stories to tell the tale that follows Catherine de Medici’s climb to the position of power. Catherine de Medici was among the most notable “exemplary women” during the period of the 16th century. Yet, many people know very little about this strong woman. When she was married to Henry II of France at the age of 14 she became the Queen of France. Between 1547 and 1559 she had lots of influence.
The Serpent Queen follows two timelines: 1560 in which Catherine reigns as the sovereign governor, who wishes to safeguard her young son, in order to secure his future enthronement, and his youthful years. At just 14, Catherine was betrothed by her uncle Pope Clement to the youngest son of Henry, the King Henry of France, Henry, to make a formal alliance.
In the absence of a child, Catherine will have to be able to survive in court. Catherine isn’t an attractive beauty but quickly is revealed to be a clever, skilled strategist, clever and, if needed even capable of retribution and violence.
