The vast majority of cinephiles among our readers are probably aware of Time Bandits, a cult film from the genius Terry Gilliam (Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) which was released in 1981. The series adaptation based on the film will shortly appear via Apple TV+.
Produced by showrunners JemaineClement as well as Iain Morris with the supervision of Taika Waititi (who is also executive producer) The show features an impressive cast, including Lisa Kudrow (the actress who played Phoebe in the sitcom Friend) and Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphy, Charlyne Yi and even Roger Nsengiyumva.
Time Bandits, the synopsis says, “is an unpredictable journey through time and space that features an enigmatic group of thieves, and their latest recruit, an 11-year old history buff known as Kevin. Together they embark on an exciting mission to save Kevin’s parents as well as the world at large. Then again: “The eccentric group of bandits set off in epic adventure as they battle against evil forces which threaten their victories and their way of life as they see it.
Moving through space and time and space, they discover amazing worlds from the past, seeking out treasures, always relying on Kevin to bring light to every single page they travel through. Time Bandits Time Bandits witness the creation of Stonehenge and witness how the Trojan Horse in action, escape the dinosaurs from the prehistoric period as they wreak havoc throughout The Middle Ages, experience the Ice Age, ancient civilizations and more.
