A Show That’s Hard to Explain But Easy to Enjoy

Let me try to describe Roosters for someone who’s never seen it.

Four Dutch guys. Friends for years. Trying to figure out life in a world where women are calling the shots more and more. They’re not bad guys. They’re just… struggling. With relationships. With careers. With their own egos.

And instead of handling things maturely, they do what a lot of guys do. They joke. They deflect. They make everything worse before eventually figuring it out.

It’s a comedy. But it has real heart too.

Season 3 is coming. And if you liked the first two? You’ll want to watch this.

When Does It Premiere?

May 19, 2027. That’s a Wednesday.

Netflix is dropping it at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. Global release, same time everywhere.

Morning for the West Coast. Afternoon for the East Coast. Evening for Europe. Works out nicely for most people.

How Many Episodes Are We Getting?

Six episodes. Each one runs about 30 minutes.

That’s the same length as previous seasons. Short enough to binge in an afternoon. Long enough to actually develop the characters and storylines.

What’s the Show About?

The original Dutch title is Haantjes. It translates roughly to “little roosters” or “cocks.” As in, strutting around, showing off, being a bit full of themselves. That’s the vibe.

The show follows four friends—Mike, Danny, Greg, Ivo—as they navigate a world that’s changing faster than they can keep up. Women are more empowered. Old-school masculinity is getting called out. And these guys are not handling the transition smoothly.

Mike (Jeroen Spitzenberger) is probably the main character. He’s trying to be better. Really trying. But he keeps messing up.

Danny (Waldemar Torenstra) is the confident one. Or at least he acts confident. Deep down, he’s as insecure as the rest of them.

Greg (André Dongelmans) is the sensible one. The voice of reason. Occasionally ignored.

Ivo (Benja Bruijning) is… well, he’s Ivo. A bit lost. A bit confused. Trying to find his place.

Then there are the women. Stevie (Eva Laurenssen). Pam (Jennifer Hoffman). Merel (Jelka van Houten). Tess (Frouke Verheijde). They’re not just love interests or obstacles. They have their own stories, their own struggles, their own perspectives on what’s happening.

The show balances humor and heart really well. One minute you’re laughing at a ridiculously awkward situation. The next minute you’re nodding along because, yeah, that’s actually a real thing men deal with.

What Could Happen in Season 3?

Season 2 ended with a lot of things up in the air. Relationships were shaky. Careers were uncertain. Friendships had been tested.

Season 3 will probably pick up right where things left off.

Mike and Stevie. Their relationship has been a central thread since the beginning. They’ve broken up. Gotten back together. Almost broken up again. Season 3 might finally give them some stability. Or it might tear them apart for good. Hard to say.

Danny’s career. He’s been chasing success in various ways. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it blows up in his face. Season 3 might be the season he finally figures out what he actually wants.

Greg and Pam. The most stable couple. But even they’ve had their moments. Maybe something shakes them up this time.

Ivo finding himself. He’s been the most lost of the four. Maybe Season 3 gives him a real direction.

The show’s title—Roosters—is ironic. These guys strut around like they’re in charge. But underneath, they’re just as confused as anyone else. The comedy comes from watching them pretend otherwise.

Who’s in the Cast?

The main cast is all returning:

  • Jeroen Spitzenberger as Mike Mulder. He’s the lead. The guy we spend the most time with.
  • Eva Laurenssen as Stevie. Mike’s partner. The one who often has to clean up his messes.
  • Waldemar Torenstra as Danny. The confident one. Maybe too confident.
  • Jennifer Hoffman as Pam. Greg’s partner. Practical and grounded.
  • André Dongelmans as Greg. The sensible friend.
  • Jelka van Houten as Merel. An important part of the group dynamic.
  • Benja Bruijning as Ivo. The lost one.
  • Frouke Verheijde as Tess.
  • Guy Clemens as Bram.

No news yet on new characters. But Dutch shows tend to have small, tight casts. Probably the same group we’ve been following all along.

Is There a Trailer?

Not yet. Too early.

Netflix usually drops trailers about a month before release. Expect something in April 2027. Keep an eye on their YouTube channel and social media.

How Can You Watch It?

  • Anywhere with Netflix: The show is a Netflix original. Available globally.
  • Language options: Original Dutch audio. Subtitles in English and plenty of other languages.
  • Previous seasons: Seasons 1 and 2 are available right now. Good time to catch up if you’re behind.

Where Is It Filmed?

The Netherlands, mostly. Probably Amsterdam or another major Dutch city. That’s where the first two seasons shot.

The show has a very Dutch feel. The architecture, the streets, the bikes everywhere. It’s not trying to pretend to be somewhere else. That authenticity is part of its charm.

How Will the Show End?

Eventually, probably. Everything ends.

But Roosters feels like a show that could run for a while. The themes are universal. The characters are relatable. As long as the writing stays sharp, there’s material to mine.

Maybe Season 3 ends on a cliffhanger. Maybe it wraps up cleanly. No way to know until it airs.

Why Does This Show Still Matter After Three Seasons?

Look, there are a lot of comedies about men being immature. That’s not new.

What makes Roosters different is that it actually engages with the “crisis of masculinity” thing seriously. The show doesn’t just laugh at its characters. It also understands them. They’re not villains. They’re not heroes. They’re just guys trying to adapt to a world that doesn’t need them to be in charge anymore.

And that’s hard. Really hard. The show acknowledges that without excusing bad behavior.

Plus, it’s genuinely funny. The writing is sharp. The performances are great. Jeroen Spitzenberger especially—he can do more with a single awkward glance than most actors do with a whole monologue.

Season 3 lands on May 19, 2027. If you’ve been watching, you’re already in. If you’re new, start with Season 1. You’ve got time.
