Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5: The Final Voyage Begins
The End of an Era
Here’s something you might not realize. Strange New Worlds was only supposed to be a limited thing. The show started as a backdoor pilot within Discovery. Captain Pike, Spock, Number One. They were so well-received that they got their own series. And then that series got so well-received that it’s now one of the most beloved Trek shows in years.
But all good things end.
Season 5 is the final season. The last voyage of the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. And it’s coming this fall.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 Release Date
September 2, 2027. That’s a Thursday.
Paramount+ is dropping it at 7:15 a.m. PT / 10:15 a.m. ET.
Season 5 consists of 10 episodes, and each one runs about 50 minutes.
What Is “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 5 About?
Quick recap for anyone who hasn’t been watching.
Strange New Worlds is set about a decade before the original Star Trek series. Captain Pike commands the USS Enterprise. His crew includes a young Spock, a young Uhura, and a young Nurse Chapel. Also along for the ride: La’an Noonien-Singh, a descendant of Khan. And Number One, who’s a genetically engineered Illyrian hiding her identity.
The show does classic Trek storytelling. New planets. New aliens. Moral dilemmas. But it also does weird stuff. Musical episodes. Time loops. Puppet episodes. It’s a show that respects the source material while also being willing to take risks.
Season 5 will continue that tradition. The cast has described the final season as having “final boss energy” — the stakes are higher, the strangeness is pushed to the extreme, and everything is building toward something big.
A few things we know about the final season.
The Kirk evolution. The actor who plays James T. Kirk has said that Season 5 will show Kirk becoming the fully formed leader we know from the original series. Not there yet. But getting there. And his relationship with his brother Sam will be a big part of it.
Bones and Sulu. The series finale will introduce two iconic characters. Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy will be played by Thomas Jane. Hikaru Sulu will be played by Kai Murakami. They’re only appearing in the finale, which seems designed to bridge the gap between Pike’s Enterprise and Kirk’s Enterprise.
An emotional end. The show has always had a clear trajectory. Pike knows his fate. He’s seen it. The accident that will leave him scarred and confined to a wheelchair. The series has been building toward that moment. Season 5 will probably address it directly.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 5 Cast
Everyone’s coming back for the final season:
- Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike. He’s the heart of the show.
- Ethan Peck as Spock. Yes, that Spock. The one who will eventually serve under Kirk.
- Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas. The pilot. The one with the best one-liners.
- Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh. The security officer with the complicated heritage.
- Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley / Number One. The first officer. The one hiding a secret.
- Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel. The one with complicated feelings for Spock.
- Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura. The communications officer. The one who will eventually serve under Kirk.
- Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. The chief medical officer.

Any Final Thoughts?
Strange New Worlds has been a gift. A classic Trek show made with modern sensibilities. It’s fun. It’s thoughtful. It’s got heart.
The final season will be bittersweet. We’re losing a show that did something rare — it made Trek feel hopeful again. Like the future could actually be better than the present.
But at least we get a proper ending. Ten episodes. The whole cast. A finale designed to close the book on this chapter of the Enterprise’s history.
September 2, 2027. Set a reminder.
