In the wake of the documentary Quarterback that focused on a range of American footballers who play in the same position title, Netflix will launch a brand new show this year titled Receiver. The new show follows some of the top receivers of the National Football League (NFL) during the last season.
The show focuses on the lives both on and off the playing field for Davante Adam (Las Las Vegas Raiders), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) and Deebo Samuel and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers. “The natural progression of a pass is a reception, so after the success of Quarterback, we’re excited to delve into the world of receivers,” said Netflix Vice President Gabe Spitzer. Receiver comprises eight episodes, and will debut on the streaming service in the summer.
Netflix has made previous sports documentaries, including Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Break Point, Full Swing and The Last Dance.
The trailer gives glimpses into the diverse faces and difficulties the athletes have to have to face. We can see, for instance, St. Brown dyeing his hair blue, Jefferson showing off his jewelry collection and Kittle wearing a t-shirt on a car. The show also reveals how these athletes make time for their families, with Adams declaring that he is an “superhero” to his children due to his achievements playing on the fields.

The show has been created through NFL Films, Omaha Productions along with 2PM Productions. The executive producers are Ross Ketover, Pat Kelleher as well as Keith Cossrow of NFL Films.
