The show was written by Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright The story is based on Nell Jackson (Louisa Harland) an innocent young woman who is on in hiding after being convicted of murder. Jackson is soon the most sought-after highwayman of the 18th century in England But she soon realizes her fate is more dire than she anticipated when she meets the mysterious spirit Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed).
After being forced to flee together with her sisters Roxy as well as George, Nell found refuge in the world of a highwayman. Her fame soon was boosted by her extraordinary abilities in combat. Her fame caught the eye of the shady Earl of Poynton who plotted the darkest plot of magic against Queen England.
However, Nell is not the only one. She is joined by the talented Sprite Billy Blind, whose unusual abilities are valuable when they embark on their adventure. As Nell examines the limits of her potential She finds out that she is a part in a much larger, mystical plot that is centered around The Queen of England.
