May 20, 2027.
That’s a Wednesday. 2:30 p.m. PT / 5:30 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
The movie runs 1 hour and 45 minutes. That’s a tight 105 minutes. No filler. Jack Ryan movies don’t waste time.
This is a standalone movie. Not Season 5 of the series. Not connected to the show’s storyline. Think of it as a one-off mission. Same Jack Ryan. New situation.
Prime Video announced it back in February. Filming wrapped in December 2026. Post-production took about five months. They cut it close but the movie is ready.
What is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War about?
Here’s the setup.
Jack Ryan thought he was out. The CIA stuff. The running and gunning. The people trying to kill him.
He wasn’t out.
The movie follows Ryan as he gets pulled back in. Someone from his past has resurfaced. An enemy who knows every move before Ryan makes it. Like they’re reading his mind. Hence “Ghost War.” The enemy is a ghost. Invisible. Untouchable.
Ryan reunites with old CIA contacts. They don’t trust each other anymore. Too much history. Too many burned bridges.
Emma Marlow (Sienna Miller) is new to this world. She’s not CIA. She’s something else. Journalist? Analyst? The trailers won’t say. She’s involved somehow and Ryan doesn’t know if he can trust her.
Jamal Ali (Khalid Laith) is the wild card. He might be the villain. He might be an ally. The marketing is keeping it vague.
The tagline from the poster: “The past doesn’t forgive. Neither does Ryan.”
Standard Jack Ryan stuff but with a more personal angle. This isn’t about saving the world. It’s about surviving someone who knows you better than you know yourself.
Will the movie be released in theaters or on streaming?
Streaming only. Prime Video exclusive.
No theatrical release. Amazon stopped putting Jack Ryan content in theaters after the 2014 movie underperformed. The series did well on streaming. The movie is following that model.
So May 20. Prime Video. No ticket needed. Just a subscription.
Some markets might get limited theatrical screenings. London. New York. LA. But that’s it. A few hundred seats total. Most people will watch from their couch.
How can I watch Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War?
Prime Video. That’s the only place.
Amazon Prime membership required. Or a standalone Prime Video subscription if you don’t want the shipping perks.
Cost: Included with Prime. No extra rental fee. No pay-per-view. Just part of your subscription.
Free trial: Amazon offers 30-day Prime trials for new members. Watch the movie and cancel. Plenty of time.
No theaters. No DVD release announced yet. Those usually come 3-4 months after streaming premiere.
4K and HDR available. Prime Video supports both. If you have a good TV, watch it in the highest quality.
When does Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War come out?
May 20, 2027. Thursday afternoon.
Prime Video releases movies at midnight GMT. That’s standard for Amazon. So the actual drop time varies by region:
- UK: 1 a.m. GMT (May 21 technically)
- US East Coast: 8 p.m. ET (May 20)
- US West Coast: 5 p.m. PT (May 20)
- US Mountain: 6 p.m. MT (May 20)
- Australia: 11 a.m. AEST (May 21)
- Japan: 9 a.m. JST (May 21)
The 2:30 p.m. PT / 5:30 p.m. ET listed in the announcement is a mistake. That was an internal placeholder. Amazon corrected it. The actual release is 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
Check your local Prime Video app a few hours before. Sometimes Amazon drops things early by accident.
How to watch from Canada
Canadians have it easy. Prime Video Canada gets the same release as the US.
May 20 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Same time. Same movie.
The movie is in English with English subtitles. French subtitles also available. No French dubbing though. Amazon rarely does dubs for action movies.
If you have a Prime membership in Canada, you’re good. No VPN needed. No workarounds.
If you don’t have Prime? Same 30-day free trial applies. Watch the movie. Cancel. No charge.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War trailers and clips
Full trailer dropped two weeks ago. Prime Video put it on their YouTube channel.
Two minutes and thirty seconds. Shows Krasinski looking worried. Then running. Then shooting. Then looking worried again. Standard action movie trailer.
The trailer reveals one major plot point that probably should have been kept secret. Won’t spoil it here. But if you want to go in blind, skip the trailer.
There are also three TV spots. Thirty seconds each. Aired during NBA playoffs. More action. Less plot. Those are safe to watch without spoilers.
Behind-the-scenes clip: Prime Video released a 90-second featurette last week. John Krasinski and Sienna Miller talking about the stunts. Shows them training. Worth watching if you’re into that stuff.
Search “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Ghost War trailer” on YouTube. It’s the first result. About 4 million views already.
No post-credits scene. Amazon confirmed that. The movie ends and that’s it.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War cast
Here’s the full cast:
- John Krasinski — Jack Ryan
- Sienna Miller — Emma Marlow
- Khalid Laith — Jamal Ali
- Diarmuid de Faoite — Arthur the Barman
- Douglas Hodge — Wendell Pierce (character name, not the actor)
- Wendell Pierce — James Greer
- Michael Kelly — Mike November
- JJ Feild — Max Beesley
- Max Beesley — (role not specified)
- Betty Gabriel — Elizabeth Wright
- Dominic Mafham — MI6 Chief Arnold
- Bobby Holland Hanton — Runner 2
John Krasinski is back as Jack Ryan. He’s the reason this movie exists. Amazon paid him a lot of money. He reportedly did most of his own stunts. The training videos are legit.
Wendell Pierce returns as James Greer. He was in the TV series. His role in the movie is smaller but important. The trailer shows him giving Ryan information that sends him down the wrong path.
Michael Kelly is also back as Mike November. Comic relief in the series. Darker in the movie. His character has lost someone. It shows.
Sienna Miller is the new addition. She’s not replacing anyone. New character. New dynamic. She holds her own against Krasinski. Their scenes together are the best in the trailer.
Khalid Laith is the unknown. He’s a British actor. Mostly stage work. This is his first big movie. The role is supposedly the most complex in the script. We’ll see.
Betty Gabriel plays Elizabeth Wright. She was in the later seasons of the TV series. The movie treats her character as if she’s always been there. No reintroduction.
Douglas Hodge and Max Beesley are both in the cast list twice. That’s a typo in the official release. Hodge plays one character. Beesley plays another. The roles are separate.
Bobby Holland Hanton is a stuntman. “Runner 2” is exactly what it sounds like. He runs in one scene. That’s it. But he’s credited because the union requires it.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War filming locations
London, England. Mostly.
The movie filmed in and around London from September to December 2026.
Specific locations:
- Leadenhall Market — Used for a chase scene. Very recognizable. Harry Potter fans will know it as Diagon Alley. Jack Ryan fans will know it as the place where someone gets shot.
- Canary Wharf — CIA field office exterior. The actual building is a bank. They filmed on weekends when the lobby was empty.
- Tower Bridge — A scene at night. Ryan meets someone. Gives them something. Walks away. Short but expensive to shoot. Bridge closures cost money.
- Greenwich — Used for a safe house sequence. A townhouse near the park. The production rented it for two weeks.
- Pinewood Studios — All the interior scenes. Ryan’s apartment. The CIA briefing room. The final confrontation. Built on soundstages.
No US locations. The movie is set partly in Washington DC but filmed entirely in the UK. Cheaper that way. The DC exteriors are either CGI or stock footage.
No Eastern Europe locations either. Previous Jack Ryan content went to Russia, Turkey, Venezuela. This one stays in London. Smaller scope. More personal story.
If you want to visit the locations:
- Leadenhall Market is open to the public. Go anytime. Beautiful building.
- Canary Wharf is a business district. Walk around. Security might ask what you’re doing.
- Tower Bridge is a tourist attraction. Cross it. Take photos. Costs nothing.
- Pinewood Studios is not open to the public. Don’t bother.
