100 Foot Wave Storyline & Synopsis
The documentary series was directed and edited by award-winning filmmaker Chris Smith but also produced by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Joe Lewis. The series chronicles the decade-long journey of the pioneer of big surf Garreth McNamara, who after visiting Nazarein hoping to surf that well-known wave has helped propel the sport to ever higher levels and has transformed the tiny Portuguese fishing town into the top destination for those who want to chase the monster waves.
For over 50 years when it comes to surfing and large waves the name of the Late Greg Noll came to mind first. Greg Noll’s Californian surfer’s feat off the western coast of Oahu in 1969 for a long time been regarded as the most impressive ever, even though many have long doubted the existence of such a huge wave around the globe. The inability to envision what a wave such size would appear like, and even what it would have looked like if a human had been able to surf it. Many questions, inspired many wave surfers to travel around the world seeking out potential and hidden places.
