The First World War is raging throughout Europe. While Switzerland seems like an peaceful haven. In reality, however, the world’s agents and powers are operating in the background, hidden within neutral Switzerland. Based on real events “Davos 1917” tells the story of Johanna Gabathuler who is the Graubunden nurse who finds herself in the middle of secret agents. In an effort to reclaim her daughter she never had and to regain her trust, she becomes involved in a risky contest with the German secret service and then is caught up with a dangerous plan that could mean the difference between peace and war.
Young woman (Devenport) is doing everything she can to win her daughter back, who was taken away from her following birth. In the course of her search, she is stuck between the fronts of spy agencies. To win back her daughter she never had she becomes engaged in a perilous affair in conjunction with the German secret service. She quickly becomes the decisive element. The scripts originate from the author Adrian Illien and his co-authors Thomas Hess, Julia Penner and Michael Sauter. The format is produced through Contrast Film, Amalia Film and Letterbox Filmproduktion.
The Davos community appealed to Davos businesses and the Davos community to support. The project required logistical and staff assistance from the driver of the vehicle as well as the skilled craftsman. Actors of different age groups were also sought out and were cast.
The principal role is played by 27-year old Lucerne residents Dominique Devenport (known, among others, from the show “Sisi”). The popular German actor David Kross and Jeanette Hain play leading roles as well. The other roles are Anna Schinz, Hanspeter Muller-Drossaart and Sunnyi Melles. It was written and directed by Swiss Jan-Eric Mack aswell in the roles of Anca Miruna Lazarescu as well as Christian Theede.
