| It’s Not Like That Season 2 is yet to be announced: Is There going to be a Season 2 of It’s Not Like That — ✔️ May 31, 2027 New 🌻 Summer 2026 TV Show Premiere |
Here’s the setup. Two friends. One freshly divorced. One recently widowed. Both navigating singlehood after years of being partnered. Both with teenage kids who have opinions about everything.
And everyone around them is asking the same question. Are they going to end up together?
Lori and Malcolm say no. It’s not like that, they insist. They’re just friends. They’ve known each other forever. Their kids are friends. It’s convenient.
Sure. Of course.
It’s Not Like That is a classic “will they or won’t they” story wrapped in a family dramedy. And Season 2 is coming to Prime Video.
When Does It Premiere?
May 31, 2027. That’s a Monday.
Prime Video is dropping it at 4 a.m. PT / 7 a.m. ET. Early, I know. But that’s how streaming works sometimes. You don’t have to watch it at 4 a.m. It’ll be there when you wake up.
All eight episodes at once. Binge or pace yourself. Your choice.
What’s the Show About?
Let me introduce the characters.
Lori Soto (Erinn Hayes) is freshly divorced from David (J.R. Ramirez). The marriage ended. Not explosively, but not smoothly either. They’re co-parenting. It’s complicated.
Malcolm Jeffries (Scott Foley) is a widowed minister. His wife died. He’s been raising their kids alone. He’s also a man of faith, which adds another layer to everything.
They’ve been friends for years. Their kids are friends. They lean on each other. They talk about parenting, about grief, about loneliness. And somewhere along the way, the lines started blurring.
Season 1 was about them noticing that blur. About everyone around them noticing too. About them insisting—over and over—that it’s not like that.
Season 2 will probably push them closer to actually dealing with it.
What Could Happen in Season 2?
A few things seem likely.
The ex-husband situation. David is still around. He’s the father of Lori’s kids. They have to co-parent. And he’s probably not thrilled about the possibility of Lori moving on with Malcolm. J.R. Ramirez plays David. Expect some tension there.
The minister thing. Malcolm is a religious leader. Dating a divorced woman? Fine. Dating a divorced woman who’s also his close friend and the mother of his kids’ friends? Messier. Dating in general as a widowed pastor? The show hasn’t fully explored that yet. Season 2 might.
The kids. Teenagers. They notice everything. They have opinions. They’ll probably meddle. Or rebel. Or both.
The title. It’s Not Like That. At some point, the show has to reckon with that title. Either Lori and Malcolm get together, proving everyone right. Or they don’t, proving that sometimes a friendship is just a friendship. Either answer could work. The journey matters more than the destination.
Who’s in the Cast?
The main cast is returning:
- Scott Foley as Malcolm Jeffries. The widowed minister. Foley has done a lot of TV—Scandal, The Unit, Felicity. He’s good at playing conflicted, decent men.
- Erinn Hayes as Lori Soto. The freshly divorced mom. Hayes is a great comedic actress—Childrens Hospital, Kevin Can Wait—but she handles the dramatic moments well too.
- J.R. Ramirez as David Soto. The ex-husband. He’s not a villain. Just a guy navigating a new normal.
- Caleb Baumann as Merritt Soto. Lori and David’s kid.
- Cary Christopher as Justin Jeffries. Malcolm’s kid.
- Liv Lindell as Casey Soto. Another Soto kid.
- Leven Miranda as Flora Jeffries.
- Cassidy Paul as Penelope Jeffries.
- Michaela Russell as Dakota.
- Sharon Blackwood as Virginia.
The kids are a big part of the show. It’s not just about the romance. It’s about families blending—or not blending—and how teenagers cope when their parents start dating again.
Is There a Trailer?
Not yet. Too early.
Prime Video usually drops trailers about a month before release. Expect something in April or early May 2027. Keep an eye on their YouTube channel.
How Can You Watch It?
- Prime Video. That’s it. The show is an Amazon original. Available globally wherever Prime Video operates.
- Previous seasons: Season 1 is available on Prime Video right now. Watch it first. Season 2 will make a lot more sense if you do.
Where Is It Filmed?
Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Atlanta has become a major production hub. Lots of shows film there. Cheaper than LA or New York. Good tax incentives. And the city can stand in for a lot of different places.
The show is set somewhere suburban. Probably not explicitly Atlanta, but filmed there. That’s common.
Any Final Thoughts?
It’s Not Like That isn’t trying to reinvent television. It’s a family dramedy with a romantic will-they-won’t-they at its center. You’ve seen shows like this before.
But the cast is strong. Scott Foley and Erinn Hayes have good chemistry. The teenage actors hold their own. And the premise—two people who’ve known each other for years, who are both vulnerable in different ways, who maybe, possibly, could be something more—is solid.
The title is doing a lot of work. Every time Lori or Malcolm insists “it’s not like that,” you’re supposed to wonder. Are they lying to themselves? Are they lying to everyone else? Or are they telling the truth, and everyone else is projecting?
That’s the tension. That’s what keeps you watching.
Season 2 drops on May 31, 2027 on Prime Video.
