Southern Storytellers Storyline & Synopsis
“Southern Storytellers,” a new three-episode show produced by Public Broadcast System, Arkansas PBS, and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Craig Renaud, follows some of the most intriguing and influential contemporary creators back to the communities they call home -communities that feed their stories through songs, books poems, plays, and on screens both large and small.
“‘Southern Storytellers’ aims to show the South in an authentic light through the experiences of the region’s writers and creators,” WSRE PBS Director of Development and Engagement Jennifer Knisbell said. “Following a short film screening, we’ll engage with local creators who are telling their own Southern stories through their music and poetry.”
With a significant amount of funding through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, “Southern Storytellers” traverses the South beginning in the hills of Appalachia up to the Gulf of Mexico, revealing an array of vibrant American stories that showcase the strength and happiness of Southern people, and the awe-inspiring gifts from the region’s authors.
