The Golden Boy Storyline & Synopsis
At 19 years old, Oscar De La Hoya was an Olympic gold boxer, the local hero, and a role model for the Mexico-American neighbors in East Los Angeles. The nickname was “The Golden Boy”, De La Hoya was a beautiful man, thanks to his attractive appearance and heartbreaking tale about winning Olympic gold in honor of his mother’s dying wish became a cult figure both inside and outside of the boxing ring. But there was a lot more to it than it appeared to be beneath the shiny facade.
The documentary De La Hoya tells the whole story, without filter in his own words. He also provides rare archive material. The film was directed by Fernando Villena, and executive produced by as well as Mark Wahlberg. Oscar De La Hoya was an Olympic gold medalist in boxing, and an international professional boxer who won multiple world titles and hero from his hometown, and an inspiration to the Mexican American community of East Los Angeles.
