Two Sides of the Abyss Storyline & Synopsis
In the course of a police investigation at a hardware store in Wuppertal, an officer from the police department Luise Berg (Anne Ratte-Polle) quickly spots the suspect: Dennis Opitz (Anton Dreger). The man found guilty of murdering her daughter, then 17, Merle (Josephine Thiesen) is now released from prison early. She was almost unable to recognize the man. The previously corpulent, shy outsider has become a confident and attractive young man.
The interest of the audience has been stimulated and is expected to remain high throughout the entire six-episode run of this mini-series. Screenwriter Kristin Derfler and director Anno Saul are able to delve into the numerous aspects of the story in one way and then present it so well and compellingly on the other side that those who are viewers of the genre will be able to get their value for their money without making sacrifices.
As more murders take place, Luise investigates Dennis’ criminal past. She discovers that the apparently reformed young man is seeking revenge. However, nobody is convinced by Luise. If there are sudden murders taking place in downtown, Luise is forced to look into Dennis the dark side of his background. It soon becomes apparent she is the clean, resocialized ex-prisoner just looking for revenge. No one seems to trust Luise and the latest reports suggest that Dennis is also pursuing her and her daughter Josi.
